Reena Agrawal Sahni is a partner in the global Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory practice.
She advises domestic and foreign banks, non-bank financial institutions, and FinTech clients on a range of issues, including U.S. bank regulation and financial services regulation. Specifically, with respect to domestic and foreign banks, she advises on investments by and into banking organizations, and Dodd-Frank related regulations, including enhanced prudential standards, recovery and resolution planning, and the Volcker Rule; and traditional bank regulatory issues, including affiliate transactions, merchant banking investments, insider transactions, and margin regulations. Reena also represents clients on corporate governance, OFAC and BSA/AML compliance, internal investigations and regulatory enforcement actions. In that capacity, she regularly deals with the Federal Reserve, the OCC, the FDIC, and the NYDFS, among other regulators.
Reena has also been active in the FinTech space, advising clients on money transmission issues and bank partnerships, and on digital asset custody issues. She has assisted a client in chartering a limited purpose trust company for purposes of launching digital asset custody and has advised on New York BitLicense related issues. She was previously a law clerk for the Hon. Jon O. Newman, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and she served as a Senior Attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2007 to 2009. Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Reena was Counsel at Davis Polk.
